The 2026 Phoenix Music Competition for Young Virtuoso 


 Deadline: Sept. 1st, 2026
Location: All applicants are required to submit their music performance by video recording.
Eligibility:
The competition is open to all violin, viola, cello and double bass students of residents in Arizona up to 12 of age on the date of competition. Contestants need to provide a copy of either birth certificate or passport to prove their age.

Application:
The $30 non-refundable fee and application must receive before midnight on September 1st, 2026 (Mountain Standard Time).  Applications postmarked after September 1st, 2026 (Mountain Standard Time) will not be accepted. Please mail the check to the address: P. O. Box 25143, Scottsdale, AZ 85255. Any incomplete or illegible applications will be returned for completion and must resubmit by the above deadline. The result will be announced on our website on September 15th, 2026 (Mountain Standard Time).



Requirements:
1.    Please upload your video recording to the Youtube and then send the following scanned copies

       to the Foundation email address at: info@haoandmichellewangfoundation.org before

       September 1st, 2026.  Please do not send your video recording through email attachment

       because we might not be able to open your recording file.
       - A copy of applicant's application form
       - Age proof, a copy of passport or birth certificate 
       - A music copy with measures numbered and any cuts clearly marked. The  music copy must

         not contain any marks identifying the contestant or teacher. 
      - Youtube recording link address

2.    Recording Requirements:
      - Use a fixed point of view for your camera with you being the main focus. Shoot straight on,

        leaving the camera in one location. Do not pan or move the camera. Camera should be no

        closer than waist up. 
      - Ensure recording captures good quality image. 
      - Ensure recording equipment has the ability to capture good sound quality. Check for good

        balance and blend. 
      - Make sure there is 1-3 seconds of silence before the beginning of the piece. 
      - No sound enhancements are allowed. 
      - If you are playing from memory, be sure there is no music on the stand. 
      - Hands and fingers must be visible.
      - Please do not do any of the following as it may disqualify you: 
          *  Do not edit the performance video. 
          *  Do not use special effects, dissolves, fades or wipes. 
          *  Do not submit pre-recorded live performances, such as recitals, concerts, or competitions. 
3.    No changes can be made to the application after submission
4.    Accompanist is optional.
5.    The maximum playing time (include full cadenza) for all instruments in each age group:

6.    Any performance which exceeds the time limit may be disqualified.
7.    Only the first 25 entries in each age group will be entered to the competition due to limited

       space and time.
8.    All contestants are encouraged to perform from memory. No repeats except for very short

       repeats.
9.    Concert attire is required for all contestants in the performance recording.
10.  Contestants may not play the same music in the same competition from the year prior.
11.  The first place winner of each age group may not compete in the same age group again in the

       following year.
12.  Contestants agree to the use of their images and musical performances including audio and

       video recordings by the Foundation in order to promote Foundation’s programs and

       fundraising requirements.

Awards:
The first 3 place winners and honorable mention will be awarded in each instrument and age group. The decision of the judges will be final.

Prize:
1st Place: $300, 2nd Place: $200, 3rd Place: $100, Honorable Mention: $50

All the prizes will be mailed to winners after the result announcement on our website on September 15th, 2026
